The search was completed in the fall semester of 2020 when Dr. Lana Kuscer was selected for the position on 08/31/2020.The position was advertised with the above publications and we received a total of 39 applications. Each committee member screened all 39 applications to assess whether they met the minimum requirements noted in the job announcements. Qualified applicants were then scored based on their teaching experience and recorded performances. Based on scoring, the committee selected applicants for a SKYPE interview in which each applicant was asked identical questions. After discussion, the committee selected 4 applicants for an in person interview. Candidates met with the committee, the Dept. Chair, the Dean of College of Arts and Media, rehearsed with a pianist, presented a recital, demonstrated masterclass style teaching, meet with current students, and rehearsed with the faculty members in a chamber music setting. They were also asked an identical set of questions. The committee unanimously voted to select Dr. Kuscer. They all agreed that Dr. Kuscer was by far the strongest performer and most effective teacher among the finalists. Thus, Dr. Kuscer was selected as the candidate most qualified to meet the needs of the School of Music as Assistant Professor of Music (Artist/Teacher of Flute).
