Additional Recruitment Information:The position announcement was advertised, in accordance with SHSU’s normal procedures used for the recruitment of similar positions, on SHSU’s Employment Opportunities web page, which is SHSU’s in-house electronic media, (https://shsu.peopleadmin.com/).

The position was listed on the Chronicle Vitae website on October 2, 2019. The position was also listed on the American Economic Association's (AEA) Job Openings for Economists (JOE) (https://www.aeaweb.org/joe/) website, Texas Workforce Commission WorkInTexas.com website, Higher ED Jobs website, the HBCU Connect.com website, the InsideHigherEd.com website, and the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) website and Diverse jobs website. The advertisement set forth the job title, duties, and requirements.

When our Committee received an application, the following sequence of procedures was employed.

1. The Committee completed a Faculty Applicant Data Form.
2. The Committee screened the applications and identified seven (7) candidates for a campus interview. The seven candidates were David Drukker (Stata), Pubali Chakraborty (Ohio State University), Cameron Duff (University of Colorado Boulder), Alina Kovalenko (UT Austin), Benjamin Meadows (University of Tennessee Knoxville), Anna Miromanova (University of Oregon), and Raisa Sara (Texas A&M University).
3. The Committee made a final review of the application files of all applicants to determine that the Committee's choices are indeed the best candidates.
4. The Committee then prepared an interview agenda.
5. The Committee developed and used a standard set of interview questions.
6. After the interviews, the committee made a recommendation to the Department Chair.
7. The Department Chair forwarded the faculty's recommendation, with his own, along with a recommended salary, to the Dean.
8. The Chair and the Dean then conferred and agreed upon the hiring of the selected candidate and the amount of salary to be offered.
9. The Department Chair contacted the selected candidate and offered the position.

In addition to the above, the procedures complied with the requirements of Equal Employment Opportunity.

The Recruiting Committee used a systematic approach to evaluate and rate the education and experience of each individual applicant. We developed a Candidate Evaluation Checklist containing job related criteria. The checklist is separated into two phases: Phase I included required qualifications and Phase II addressed both required and preferred qualifications. The recruitment steps conform to SHSU’s Faculty Recruitment Policies.

Through the above recruitment efforts, SHSU received a total of five hundred eleven (511) applications for this position. Upon completion of the competitive recruitment and selection process, we selected Dr. Sara, because she was more qualified than any of the other applicants, who had applied for the job.
