Three students, Luci, Ari and Ali, in the Robert Warren School Leadership 8/9 class wanted to make a difference in their community but they didn’t know how.

Fundraiser leadership students

Three students, Luci, Ari and Ali, in the Robert Warren School Leadership 8/9 class wanted to make a difference in their community but they didn’t know how. They began researching different local organizations and chose the Calgary Emergency Women’s shelter as a charity they wanted to support.

Creative display of fundraising items.

The student sold candy grams for Halloween and then ran a bake sale during a school dance. The students were so impressed with the success of the bake sale that they decided to think even bigger. With support from the rest of their leadership class, they came up with a goal to raise $1,500 and collect 200 pounds of items in need.

Over the next couple of months the students set up donation boxes in each homeroom and organized a homeroom building challenge set for the last day of school before winter break. The homeroom that built the most creative structure out of donated items would win a pizza party. On the last day of school, leadership students paired up with teaching staff visited each homeroom to judge the most creative structure.

On January 17, the three students visited the Calgary Emergency Women’s shelter and handed over 500 pounds of donated items and a cheque for $1,000.

When asked about how they felt about working on the project the students said: “This has been an amazing experience and we hope that we have been able to inspire more students to help make a difference just like we did.”

Way to go Warriors!
