4月13日星期五，学生们制作了生日礼物袋，这样那些使用Calgary Food Bank的客户就可以举办生日派对了。生日礼物袋将包含一些物品，如小礼物、纸盘、派对帽、蜡烛、蛋糕混合粉、糖霜和气球。

The Grade 1 and 2 students at Silver Springs School have made it their mission to give back to the community by showering those less fortunate with birthday wishes.

As part of their study of their community, classes invited speakers from different charitable organizations to tell their stories. As soon students heard about the Calgary Food Bank’s Birthday in a Bag Program they sprang into action to make those less fortunate feel loved.

The students wrote to the principal asking for school support, sent a letter to families, created posters to put up in the school, campaigned classroom to classroom and created a series of short videos to post on Twitter. Within three weeks they collected more than 10 laundry baskets full of items!

Sophie, who got the opportunity to appeal to the community through a video on twitter hopes this project makes people happy and Cooper, notes “It feels good to help contribute.”

On Friday, Apr. 13, students built birthday bags so that clients who use the Calgary Food Bank can throw a birthday party. The birthday bags will have an assortment of items such as a small gift, paper plates, party hats, candles, cake mix, icing and balloons.
