In May 2019, the CBE launched an initiative to gather input and feedback from students, parents, staff and community members about the future of CBE high schools.

In May 2019, the CBE launched an initiative to gather input and feedback from students, parents, staff and community members about the future of CBE high schools. Over the next five years, only three of 20 CBE high schools are projected to be within the balanced utilization range (85-100%) that best supports student learning. We are asking families to share their perspectives and help us balance enrolment across these 20 high schools.

A decision is expected by October 2021, with implementation beginning September 2022. Students currently in Grade 7 will be in Grade 10 in 2022-23. If you have a student this age or younger, your family will be affected by any changes that might result from this engagement process. While current high school students will not be affected by changes, the perspectives of our current high school families are a valuable part of the conversation and will help us in the decision-making process.

This fall, you will have opportunities to share your thoughts on these factors in the decision-making process:

  • Location and designated communities/boundaries of existing high school programs (regular, French Immersion, Spanish Bilingual, Arts-Centred Learning, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Programme, International Baccalaureate Career Programme)
  • Expansion and contraction of the following existing high school programs: French Immersion, Spanish Bilingual, Arts-Centred Learning, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate Career Programme
  • Grade configurations
  • Implementation considerations

In-person sessions (12) will take place Sept. 24 – Oct. 30 and online engagement opportunities will also be provided during this time. Session registration is now open.

We have grouped all high schools involved in this engagement process into four groups and are holding three sessions per group. Please register for the session that includes the school(s) of interest to you.

The same information presented in the sessions will be available online in a discussion forum. If you are unable to register in a session, you will be able to learn more about CBE high schools and share your perspectives online.

Thank you for your participation. We look forward to hearing your perspectives.

More information is available on our High School Engagement page.
