北极光学校是为考文垂山/国家山村社区建设的第二所小学的名称。卡尔加里教育局的董事会批准了这所学校的名称，预计将于2020年9月开放。

北极光出现在北半球（极光北极光）和南半球（极光南极光）的磁极上空，呈现出绚丽多彩的色彩。这所新的小学正在卡尔加里北部的考文垂山社区建设。

Northern Lights School is the name of the second elementary school being built for the communities of Coventry Hills/Country Hills Village. The Board of Trustees of the Calgary Board of Education approved the name for this school, expected to open in September 2020.

Northern Lights form above the magnetic poles in the Northern (aurora borealis) and Southern (aurora australis) hemispheres, leading to a display of vibrant colors. The new elementary school is being built in Coventry Hillls, a community located in northern Calgary.

Some Indigenous peoples believed that the lights indicated the location of manabai’wok (giants) who were the spirits of great hunters and fishermen; some believed the lights were the spirits of the animals they hunted; while others believed they were the spirits of their people. The school naming committee recommended this name to the Board of Trustees after gathering and evaluating stakeholder input on possible names. The school naming committee is comprised of CBE Trustees, parent and/or community representatives and members of CBE administration.

Northern Lights School will serve students in Grades K-4 when it opens.
