The Calgary Board of Education believes in the educational value of international travel and that the safety of our students and staff is of highest importance.
As a system we have rigorous processes in place regarding international travel. Recent health events across the globe surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) have caused us to take time to reflect on trips outside of Canada.
Given current travel advisories and the daily changes in public health information being released, the Calgary Board of Education has made the decision to cancel a trip to Spain that was scheduled for March 10, 2020. Other international travel is still under review and is currently scheduled to proceed but can be cancelled at any time.
Our top priority is the safety of students and staff. This was an extremely difficult decision, and one we did not make lightly. We will be meeting with impacted families to discuss the decision and review next steps.
