For almost a decade, Centennial High School math teacher Jason Krause has organized and coordinated annual blood drives at the school. Over the years, he has inspired hundreds of student and staff recruits to give the gift of life.
Mr. Krause has been recognized as the recipient of a prestigious Canadian Blood Services National Lifeline Award. He has been celebrated as a peer recruiter for his years of service.
In informing Mr. Krause that he had been selected for this honour, Lisa Castro, the Territory Manager of Donor Relations with Canadian Blood Services, stated, “You will be receiving the National Honouring of Canada’s Lifeline award for all your hard work and contributions toward recruitment of blood donors in the Prairies Region. You have been an ongoing support to building awareness in the community of the need for new blood donors and as we all know recruiting first time donors is not an easy task.”
A significant percentage of Centennial alumni who first donated blood in their Grade 12 year as contributors during one of Mr. Krause’s Annual Blood Drives continue to give the gift of life on a regular basis.
Mr. Krause’s focus on serving the community and all those in need has not waned during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has already planned the next Centennial High School Blood Drive, to take place off-site in January 2022, in compliance with all health and safety regulations currently in place. Student recruitment is under way, and once again – thanks to Mr. Krause – dozens of Centennial High School students are set to roll up their sleeves to save lives.
