Excellence at Regional, Provincial, and National Levels

The CBE is celebrating the achievements of students who competed in this year’s Skills Canada events. At local, provincial and national competitions, CBE high school students demonstrated excellence, determination, and the real-world skills developed through Career and Technology Studies (CTS) programs.

Regional and Provincial Success

At the Calgary Regional SKILLS Competition, CBE students earned top placements across diverse categories including automotive technology, culinary arts, hairstyling, welding, video production and more. First-place finishes in Automotive Technology and top three performances in Culinary Arts and Baking, set the stage for provincial qualification.

This was followed by the 2025 Alberta SKILLS competition in Edmonton, where 100 CBE students earned a total of 33 medals (13 gold, 15 silver and 5 bronze).

National Medals and World Recognition

Finally, the SKILLS Canada National Competition (SCNC) in Regina took place at the end of May, where CBE students represented Team Alberta in 12 events, bringing home seven medals, including:

  • Gold in Automobile Technology (Ryker Jorgensen) and Web Technologies (Cooper Ross)
  • Silver in 3D Animation (Eric Ma & Chris Condon) and Job Search (Amal Hussainy)
  • Bronze in Car Painting (Brooke Twaddle), Mechanical CADD (Andrew Zeller), and Job Skill Demonstration (Lawrence Garcia)
  • Most of the remaining teams finished in 4th place.

Special congratulations to Cooper Ross, whose first-place finish in Web Technologies earned him an invitation to compete at WorldSkills. This invitation to the prestigious global competition for vocational excellence in Shanghai, China only occurs for exceptional performances.

Thank You Industry Partners!

This success would not have been possible without the generous support of the Calgary Construction Association, EducationMatters, SKILLS Canada Alberta, TC Energy and the many industry partners, donors, and sponsors who helped fund equipment, training, and travel for students and schools. Their investment in students' futures is helping build a stronger, more skilled Alberta, one competitor at a time.

Congratulations to all participants, medalists, educators and supporters for representing the CBE with pride and excellence!
