The CBE will be expanding yellow bus service and adjusting walk zones for the upcoming school year. This is in response to Alberta Education’s School Transportation Amendment Regulation for student transportation that comes into effect on Sept. 1, 2025.

Transportation eligibility distance and how it is calculated is changing and will now be measured by driving distance instead of walking distance. That means next year, more students will become eligible to take the bus and school walk zones will look different.

Is Your Child Eligible to Register for Yellow Bus Transportation?

Grade	Regular Program	Alternative Program
K-6	If you live outside of the 1.6 km walk zone, your child will be eligible for yellow school bus transportation. If you live inside the walk zone, your child is not eligible for transportation	Additional students may now be eligible for transportation because they live outside the walk zone. Transportation services will continue to follow the congregated stop model. Some Grade 6 students may be designated to Calgary Transit.

To find your school’s walk zone map, visit CBE’s Find a School Tool and follow these instructions:

Type in your home address or search by school in the drop-down menu.
Choose your program under Program Options.
Click on the grade(s).
Below the map, in the “Programs” column, click on the grade/program for your school.

This will display the walk zone for your desired school/program.
Note: only one walk zone can be displayed at a time.

Transportation registration for the upcoming school year will open on May 8 for all those who are eligible.
