Waste Reduction Week is Oct. 17 – 23, 2022. This week is an opportunity to celebrate individual and collective environmental commitments, efforts and accomplishments while encouraging innovative ideas and solutions around waste reduction. 

As Calgary’s public school system, we have a responsibility to contribute to a sustainable future. As a leader in environmental education and energy management on both an individual school and system level, our staff and students have demonstrated a significant commitment to environmental stewardship since 2007.

By 2030, the CBE plans to reduce waste going to landfill by 90 per cent (from 2007-08 levels) with a goal of zero waste by 2050.

This spring the CBE Sustainability Framework 2030 was presented to the Board of Trustees. It sets some specific goals for the organization, specifically, the CBE will:

• support the development of engaged citizens who understand their responsibility in contributing to a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable society, and
• be a leader in sustainable practices and behaviours.
