​​加拿大队参加2022年FIFA世界杯成为了全国范围内热衷足球的球迷和普通观众的共同关注点。

在卡尔加里教育局，许多学校齐聚一堂，观看卡尔加里足球明星萨姆·阿德库格贝和他的队友们参加世界杯的首轮比赛。

在Rideau Park School，数十名学生早早起床观看了12月1日对阵洛哥的加拿大最后争胜之战。为了在本社区促进公民意识，学生们为市长年度食品捐助活动带来了物品，该活动旨在筹集食品和资金，帮助有需要食物支持的卡尔加里居民。

“我们的学生是主导力量——从幼儿园的最小学生到整个学校的其他学生，” Rideau Park School校长特拉维斯·罗伯逊说，“学生们正在确保每个家庭都了解食品银行的需求清单。”

这是一个令人难忘的时刻，以多种不同方式。罗伯逊说，教师们利用这个机会与学生讨论本地和全球公民意识，也有助于通过团结大家来培养归属感。

他说：“我非常期待接下来的一年会有什么样的丰富学习和共同支持社区的机会。”​

​​​​Team Canada’s participation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup was a rallying point for die-hard soccer fans and casual observers of the Beautiful Game alike —​ all across the country.

That sense of camaraderie​ came alive at the Calgary Board of Education as many schools across the district gathered together to watch Calgary soccer star Sam Adekugbe and his teammates during the opening round of the World Cup.

At Rideau Park School, dozens of students woke up early to catch Canada’s last hurrah against Morocco on Dec. 1. To promote citizenship within their own community, students brought in items for the Mayor's Annual Food Drive campaign, which raises food and funds to help Calgarians needing food support.

“Our students are leading the charge — from the littlest ones in Kindergarten to the rest of the school,” said Travis Robertson, Principal at Rideau Park School. “The students are the ones who are making sure every family is aware of the wish-list from the food bank.”

It was a memorable moment in many different ways. Robertson said that teachers used the opportunity to talk with students about local and global citizenship and it also helped to cultivate a sense of belonging by bringing everyone together.

“I am so excited to see what the rest of the year holds, in terms of rich learning and opportunities to come together as a school to support our community,” he said.​
